Are you brave enough to take on the challenge of trying to get an Si-dom to enjoy songs to which they have no prior emotional attachment? Then sign up today!
As touched on just now, I’m difficult to please musically unless it’s a song I already love. Even if it’s by an artist I know I love, I just have something against new songs. I don’t even know how I came to love the ones I do. XD
It seems standard in walrus games to dock points for songs that the host knows, but considering the above, I had wanted to figure out a system where I could reward (or at least not punish) people who submit songs that I love. But then that game would be “guess which songs darc loves”, and wouldn’t be as fun. So yea, I decided to keep the standard -2 points for any song I’m familiar with (excluding “Essence of Darc”, and other specified categories).
So, what is darc’s music taste, aside from music which she already knows?
I’m glad you asked. Well, not really, but I mostly listen to 80s music, soft rock or J-pop/utaite/anime songs. Examples, in no particular order: Mafumafu, MCR, All Time Low, Blink 182, Simple Plan, Adam Ant, Queen, Fall out Boy, Tenacious D, SID, PATD, Kids in Glass Houses, Secondhand Serenade, the Kooks...
I don’t like most modern stuff, especially if it’s overplayed, nor do I like screamo, loud, or club/techno music. I am also irrationally biased towards male singers, and rarely choose to listen to any female singers.
I also have an embarrassing soft spot for some really cheesy stuff, but let’s not go into that.
And how will darc be rating these songs?
Good question... Probably fairly high compared to how I should be rating them, and possibly all the same ratings just to be fair... At least that’s my biggest fear here.
But more seriously, obviously I’ll be rating them on how well they fit into the category, which I think deserves 3 points.
I reserve the right to alter this system without notice, as I have no idea how effective it will actually be, lol.
There will be a total of 11 categories. I’m shamelessly copying Jaune’s idea of having the lowest score not count, so you needn’t worry about one tough category letting you down. You can even take this opportunity to just skip a category that’s got you totally stuck, if you so wish (but I would recommend at least trying all of them as you never know what I might or might not like). Final scores will therefore be out of a nice 100.
Option 1:
This one will be more like a standard walrus, except that some (most) of the categories may be a bit difficult.
Option 2:
The more unique option. You will only be given the first category in advance, and every subsequent category will be released AFTER the reveal. This obviously requires each player to be active throughout the whole game, but also gives the advantage of being able to adjust your later categories based on my feedback. These categories are more like simple themes (based on my own interests), so shouldn’t require quite so much thought. I’m thinking of having each deadline every 3 days or so, but I’d appreciate any feedback on this as I don’t know how feasible that sounds.
1) Essence of Darc
So... Jaune does this, so I figure “Why can’t I too?”. I love attention, and I’m super curious as to which songs people might associate with me, be it the lyrics, the video, or the style. If you’re really stuck, then you can just submit a song that you think I might like, but this’ll probably earn you less category points, to keep things fair. The more I relate to the song, or the more I can see why you chose it to represent me, the higher the points, obviously.

Also, I do enjoy videos, so any videos will also factor into how much I like the song, and will be worth 2 points.
The other 5 points will be decided by my opinions on the song. I would love to be able to dissect all of the components like vocals, the way it’s put together, instruments, lyrics, etc, but... How much I like the song is way more important to me than how objectively “good” it is (seeing as I don’t know what’s actually good). I will try to keep each of those components in mind when deciding how much I like the song, but I wouldn’t know how to assign percentages to each section so it’s all just whether I like it or not.
A lot of my grading will also likely be influenced by how good I perceive the song to be compared to the other entries. I reserve the right to alter this system without notice, as I have no idea how effective it will actually be, lol.

Now, here’s the “twist”; I actually ended up with enough categories for 2 games, so I need your help in deciding which game to run.

I will allow one week for voting, and then will announce which option has won.
Either way, the first category is:
1) Essence of Darc

There will be no deduction for songs that I know here.
You might want to spend this week earmarking possible songs, or at the very least getting ready for the first category. I will be choosing the start date based on the winning option, and either way I would like to be started before Christmas for the convenience of those who get holidays.
